Cherry Simple Syrup ~ The perfect sweet syrup with natural cherry flavor.
What a crazy day I’ve had today! It is literally almost midnight and I’m sitting here, writing this post and completely exhausted. So much so, that my eyes are so red, watery and irritated that I can barely see what I’m typing. But, I didn’t want to go to bed without first sharing this super fruity, sweet-sweet, bring me back to life little recipe.
My day started like every other day. I woke up, took a shower, got dressed, made coffee and head out to catch the train for work. My work day was pretty normal too. I handled some paper work, did some research and brainstormed new social media strategies. Fun ha?!
The craziness ensued once I got home. First, I got pretty excited because I finally received my new phone after having broken the screen of my old one over the weekend. Yay for the new phone! But then, everything got a little more interesting. My evening became a rush against time. I arrived at home at 7 pm. and in a matter of 2 hours I had to cook dinner, back up my phone (why does this take soooooo long?!), activate the new one and make a quick run to Walmart to buy my niece, who is flying back to the Dominican Republic on Thursday, her school supplies. While doing all this, I discovered my son has caught what appears to be pink eye and I’m driving myself crazy getting him to wash his hands and face every 15 minutes. *Oh the life of a mom.*
I’m not sure if you are aware of this, but a quick run to Walmart doesn’t truly exist. So of course, we spent a lot more time there than anticipated and as a result, I am now writing this post half awake and half asleep. I feel like I’m rambling. Am I rambling?
Anyways, a day like today deserves something sweet — really sweet. Too bad I don’t have any Oreos in my pantry. What I do have is some of this wonderful Cherry Simple Syrup!
Let me tell you guys. Making simple syrup is so easy and adding fruit flavors give it that little extra umff.
First you have to pit the cherries. If you don’t own a Pitter don’t fret. Check this post to learn how to pit cherries without the use of a Pitter.
After pitting the cherries, cut them in half and place them in a small sauce pan with some water and sugar. Let it simmer for about ten minutes, mash or mix the cherries in a blender and pass the liquid through a strainer. That’s it! Follow those instructions and you would have made the perfect cherry simple syrup.
Adding only a tablespoon or two of this tasty Cherry Simple Syrup, can make your drinks so much more especial. Tell me you don’t want to add some of it to your cold drink right now? I know I do.
Cherry Simple Syrup
- 2 cups cherries , pitted and sliced in half
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 cups water
- In a medium pot, heat the cherries, sugar and water over medium-high heat.
- Reduce heat when it starts to boil. Let simmer for about 10 minutes.
- Remove from heat and let cool for about 10 minutes.
- Transfer to a blender and mix for about 30 seconds.
- Pass the liquid through a strainer and store in the refrigerator in a sealed container.
