Fruity, earthy, and not too sweet, this figs jam goes perfect on toast for a beautiful and tasty snack. Any day, any time.
Now, I am about to tell you the story of the best customer service interaction I’ve ever had to date.
I had never ever bought, eaten or cooked with figs before. I remember having a great pizza that contained figs many years ago at a brunch with my friends. Since then, I was always curious about the fruit. Well, the other day, I went to the grocery store to pick up a few cooking items I needed and found these beautiful figs on the produce aisle. Since I knew absolutely nothing about figs, I approached the produce worker at the store for some guidance.
I explained to him that I had never tasted the fruit and was looking to buy some but wanted to make sure they were ripe before buying. He was so sweet and completely honest with me. He told me he had never tried the fruit either and couldn’t tell me if they were good or not. He said “I believe though that all the packages here are ripe.” I said, well I’ll buy them anyways and hopefully they turn out good. I thanked him for his help and walked away.
As I walked to the next aisle a few minutes later, I saw him come up to me with two recently cleaned figs. He handed me one and said, “I thought it would be good for me to try the food I’m in charge of so that I can better help my customers. I brought one for you so that you can try it with me and know if you like what you are buying.” Needless to say, the fruit was delicious. But, I was completely impressed by this man’s awesome customer service. I was already going to buy the fruit. He did not have to go out of his way to sell me the product. Yet, he did and just like that earned my consumer loyalty. I will definitely continue to shop at this store for as long as they keep up that awesome way of work.
Now, let’s talk JAM! It is so simple to make, you guys. All you have to do is put the figs in a sauce pan with some sugar and a little vanilla. Let all breakdown and cook for about 10 minutes. Squeeze a little lime juice and that’s it. Done. Spread on some toast or crackers and enjoy.
Figs Jam
Ingredients
- 8 oz figs (1 pack)
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 teaspoon lime juice
Instructions
- Cut figs into quarters and place in a small sauce pan.
- Add sugar and vanilla. Let it cook until it starts to break down.
- Continue to cook until the fig mixture is thick enough that if you push to one side of the pan the mixture won't spread back into the clear area.
- Take out of the sauce pan and purée in a blender.
- Place back into the pan and add the lime juice.
- Store jam in small covered containers. Let cool and refrigerate.
