Chocolate Maizena Pudding – Sweet, creamy, chocolaty warm pudding made with milk, Maizena (corn starch), sugar, cinnamon and sweet chocolate!

It’s Hispanic Heritage month and I’m feeling a bit homesick remembering the island and missing my grandma. I grew up living with my abuela and on days when I’m feeling homesick, I tent to get in the kitchen and cook something that reminds me of her.
Maizena is a popular warm pudding-like custard made with milk that in the Dominican Republic is usually cooked for breakfast. My abuela used to make it all the time for me and my cousins to have before heading out to school. You can make it vanilla flavored or chocolate. My favorite was, of course, the chocolate one!
Now as an adult, I make the same dish for my kids. They really love it! The first time I made this Chocolate Maizena Pudding for my daughter she was so surprised. “It’s a warm chocolate pudding. It smells so good!” she exclaimed.
It warms my heart to see my kids enjoy the dishes I grew up eating. It is my way of teaching and instilling my culture and heritage to them.
With this dish, I can also ensure that they are getting some of the nutrients they need as it is a milk base recipe.
Milk is a simple, wholesome way to help your little one get natural protein and balanced nutrition to help them grow up strong. It helps give kids nutrients they need to be their best, and they already love it. Giving them milk is a choice you can really feel good about.

Chocolate Maizena Pudding
- 1/3 cup Maizena (Corn Starch)
- 2 cups milk
- 4 tablespoons sugar
- 3 tablespoons cocoa
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- In a medium sauce pan, combine milk and corn starch until dissolved. Add sugar, cocoa, salt, cinnamon.
- Place sauce pan over medium heat and stir. Keep stirring until mixture thickens to a pudding consistency.
- Serve warm or refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to serve cold.
