Easy Fruit Punch and Lemonade Popsicles with Tajin ~ Easy and refreshing fruit punch and lemonade popsicles filled with strawberries, blueberries and kiwi and sprinkled with Tajin for added flavor.
I love summer! It is my favorite season of the year. I lived in New York City for many years and although the change of the seasons is pretty and all, there is really nothing like a New York summer.
Now, that could be because New Yorkers spend 95% of the year in a freezer box and once that small window of warmth comes in, they just go out in masses to make the most of it. Yeap! That must be it. Of course, there are the few that love the cold and do not care if it’s -3 degrees outside. But for the most part, people stay inside during the winter.
My summers in New York were fun. We would spend our entire days outside and organize family and friends cookouts on the backyard practically every other day of the week. I must admit. I miss that about my life in New York.
Now that I live in South Florida, it is warm year round, which means that I get to do my favorite activities of the summer any day I want. Only that instead of a backyard cookout, we just chill by the pool eating empanadas and having refreshing snacks like these easy fruit punch and lemonade popsicles with Tajin.
Recently, I was having a get together with friends to celebrate a friend’s birthday. We decided to trick her into coming to my house and surprised her with a small birthday party by the pool, which we literally organized on a whim.
We did what we call a fiesta de traje, which in English translates to a bring party. This is our way of saying that everyone invited has to bring something for the party. This way the host is not overwhelmed with preparing everything.
I was in charge of refreshments. But because I am always extra, I decided to also make a little refreshing snack that we could eat throughout the afternoon to keep us cool.
So, I made these yummy and super easy fruit punch and lemonade popsicles using Minute Maid® Fruit Punch and Lemonade, which I bought as refreshments for the party at my local Walmart. With a variety of flavors, these beverages are fun refreshments for the summer. They’re perfect to buy when you’re getting together with friends and family and pair well with summer recipes.
To make the popsicles, I sliced some fruit and added it to the popsicle mold. I then went ahead and poured fruit punch juice and lemonade into the molds. I let it freeze overnight and pulled them out at the moment to serve. To make them even more interesting, right before handing everyone their own I sprinkled them with Tajin and set up some extra in a little plate in case anyone wanted more.
Tajin is the brand name for a Mexican condiment consisting primarily of chile peppers, lime, and salt. The condiment is used on drinks like micheladas or sprinkled on fruits like mango, apples, or watermelon. It is quite tasty and gives the fruit a salty and slightly spicy flavor.
Tajin is not something that I ate growing up. It sure isn’t something that is popular or even known in the Dominican Republic. We mostly season our fruits with lime juice and salt. But I am sure that if my abuela had ever tried Tajin, she would definitely approve.
Everyone loved the popsicles and no one knew that it only took me about 10 minutes to prepare. #Winning
